An AI recovery companion can help you start a private inventory question. It cannot be your sponsor, your doctor, or your meeting. InnerAscent’s screen is titled “AI Reflections and Support.” The line on that screen says the assistant supports your reflection and does not replace your sponsor.
If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services. Do not wait for a chat reply. The terms say InnerAscent is not crisis intervention.
What the assistant is for
You open it yourself. Nothing runs it in the background. It is available during the 30-day trial and with Premium after that. Fixed English starters include “How did I feel this week?”, “What do I journal about most?”, and “Help me start my Step 4 inventory.” After you send a message, that visit can include recent turns and a snapshot of your own journal, Steps, meetings, and clean time so the reply stays tied to what you wrote.
It may offer Step, journal, and gratitude prompts and answer how to use the app. It does not give medical, legal, or diagnostic advice. A comparison note is on AI reflection and 12-step practice.
Writing starters that do not call the model at all are on recovery journal prompts. A date-only count, with nothing saved, is the clean time calculator.
What happens to the chat
The chat stays on the open screen for that visit. It is not saved into your journal unless you write it there. OpenAI processes the prompt to generate the reply, which the privacy policy states. A linked sponsor does not see AI replies unless you explicitly share a note. If you ask to contact a human about an app question, that request can include the transcript and the email you provide. The screen says the team aims to reply within 72 hours. That is product support, not clinical care.
If you write about self-harm, suicide, or immediate danger, the assistant is instructed to urge local emergency services or a crisis line, and a sponsor or another trusted person. The app does not scan journals for those words.
The human parts that stay human
The 12 Steps explained, Step 1, a meeting, and a sponsor are still the program. Official Step language is on aa.org. NA’s site is na.org.

Android is on Google Play. The iPhone app is coming soon — ask for the alert. There is no web app. The about page names who writes this site.
